Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 11th November 1880 in which the following was discussed: Messrs Watkins and Farell re-elected to board. A letter is read from Mr Gladstone (English PM) proposing to Mr Doyle (Director) 'that you should receive a Companionship of the Bath'. A request from the Royal Academy to borrow two paintings for an exhibition in Burlington House was denied as it was not consistent with the byelaws. A portrait of a Lady attributed to Palma Vecchio was submitted for purchase from Fairfax Murray for £180 and approved. A drawing by William Hunt [NGI 2164] was approved to be purchased from Christie, Manson, and Woods for £70. A small painting, "The Embarkation of Charles II at Scheveningen" by Willem van de Velde [NGI 1742?] approved to be purchased for £8/19.
