Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 6th August 1896 in which the following was discussed: a list of artwork sanctioned for purchase by the board. The Director was also given permission to proceed with the purchase of a picture by Mantegna [NGI 442]. A bronze sculpture "Knuckle bone player" was donated to the Gallery by the sculptor, Mr G. Natorp [NGI 8084]. The Director informed the board that the pictures and items of furniture that had been bequeathed by the late Lady Fitzgerald had been received by the Gallery, and he lists them. A new Judge to represent The National Gallery was elected for the Taylor Art competition for 1896-1897. The Director, Walter Armstrong submitted his annual report to the board for the year 1895. The board once again reiterate the need to press the Government for an increase in buildings for The National Gallery.
