Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 4th June 1863 in which the following was discussed: recorded the purchase of five paintings by the Director from the sale by Archdeacon Thorpe of Durham. 'two upright pictures attributed to Sebastian del Piombo' [Salmeggia NGI 78 and NGI 80]. "St John in the Wilderness", 'most probably by Salvatore Rosa', "Copy after Paolo Veronese'. "Landscape by Moucheron" [NGI 52 or 337]. Total spend (itemised) £154.12. Letter read offering copies of two paintings by Michael Angelo - declined.
