Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 4th May 1863 in which the following was discussed: the Director, having visited the sale of painting by Archdeacon Thorpe recommended the following purchases - "The Marriage Feast", a copy after Veronese [NGI 1962] and companion pictures. "St John the Baptist" attributed to Titian [NGI 63, 52, 78, 80]. The Director estimated the paintings could be had for £200. Discussion of the purchase of a copy of the "Madonna di San Sisto" by Raphael.
