Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 7th March 1863 in which the following was discussed: discussion between board and Treasury about the appointment of Director and Registrar. Letter from Treasury declining to sanction the office of Registrar. Discussion of the estimate of maintenance. Copy of letter from the Treasury declining to 'add to the sum already settled'. Read a letter from a Mr Haughton (?) and Robinson (?) discussing the 'moral and social elevation the Working Classes', going on to encourage Sunday opening following the success of Glasnevin Gardens. Included in the letter is a list of names of gentlemen favourable to the opening of the National Gallery on a Sunday. The Director was instructed to reply that the matter was under consideration. A relevant amendment to the byelaws was outlined.
