Description
Minutes of a board meeting held on 12th February 1869 in which the following was discussed: a special meeting due to the death of the first Director of the Gallery, George F. Mulvany. A letter from the Treasury in regards to money sought by the Gallery for its expenses for the year. The board declined to purchase a painting offered by Mr John Galloway and received a letter from Mr J.R. Marquis applying for the position of Director of The National Gallery. The board gave its approval to a painting by Velazquez, acquired by the late Director from Mr James Whatman. A letter of commemoration for George F. Muvany is read, and the board agree to begin the search for a replacment during the next meeting.
