Description
Minutes of board meeting held on 5th January 1857 in which the following was discussed: various letters read acknowledging sums of money donated and subscriptions from £1 to £20. Some letters read declining to subscribe to the gallery. It was resolved that Mr Mulvany proceed to London to inspect the pictures that may be available from the gallery in London. Mr Mulvany will also visit the British Museum to investigate obtaining casts of marbles for the gallery. It was agreed to accept two paintings donated by a Mr Berry including the Landing of William the 3rd at Torbay ["The Landing of William of Orange in England" by Isaac Sailmaker [NGI 1741]]. A Mr Stronge also donated a small picture by Haans Bergen, ["A Classical Landscape" by School of Master of Hovingham, [NGI 341]].
