Description
Handwritten letter from Aloysius O'Kelly to James Herbert, accompanied by an envelope. O’Kelly writes that he received Herbert’s letter of 16 July in reply to his letter about Bernadette O’Kelly (Bunnie). In that letter Herbert mentioned that he had received a letter from Gertrude Lawlor stating that Bernadette O’Kelly wanted to sell two old Italian paintings and was asking Herbert to find a purchaser. O’Kelly writes that Bernadette O’Kelly had already written to him about these paintings and had already approached Christie’s in London but declined the sum offered. O’Kelly thinks they are genuine fifteenth century Italian paintings with original frames, though the religious subject matter is not popular, he has offered to try to find a buyer if Bernadette O’Kelly sends them to New York. O’Kelly thanks Herbert for sending money to Bernadette O’Kelly and advises him to ignore the two Lawlor girls that Bernadette O’Kelly is staying with. He asserts that they have absorbed Bernadette O’Kelly’s money and have lived off Bernadette and James for years, claiming that they are the benefactors.
