1918 Dáil Badge
Description
Collection contains one folder comprising a letter from Sarah Purser regarding an upcoming engagement; an envelope with notes concerning an election badge; and the aforementioned election badge with the inscription “Up Barton”. Envelope notes state that the badge was sent to an unknown correspondent by Joseph Nolan. This was sent when Erskine Childers stood as a candidate for President of Ireland in 1973. Joseph Nolan has also written a note himself underneath saying that the badge enclosed was worn by himself at the elections in December 1918 for the first Dáil. [The ‘Barton’ referenced may refer to Robert Barton who ran as a Sinn Féin candidate in the 1918 election]. The items in this folder date from 1918 to 1973 approximately.
